Thank gourd it’s Friday! Another week of herding cats is behind me (but really, working on an editing project is frustrating at deadline), and I’m ready to focus on the good — and the weekend! I know I slacked on Friday Favorites last week, but I think I’ve got a pretty good offering this week to make up for it.
Let’s jump in:
The one-week countdown! Kyle comes home a week from today and I couldn’t be more excited! He hasn’t been home since the middle of May and that has just been way too long. Hopefully I’ll get him at home again for a while before he gets shipped off to his next disaster.
Outlander wine: Saw this wine at Aldi last night and had to get it (because the Outlander FOMO is real). It clearly has nothing to do with the show, and it’s not even really that good, but I’m enjoying it on principle. Plus, last night was definitely a glass-of-wine-needed kind of night.
You Need A Budget: I have reconciled myself to the fact that I am terrible at budgeting — namely I’m so focused on paying down my debt that I often don’t leave myself enough money to actually live my life — so I’ve finally decided to give YNAB a try. I’m just a couple days into the free trial, but so far it’s really helping me see where all my money is, where it’s going and what I have left.
Trim: Another financial favorite! Trim monitors your recurring expenses and helps you cut out the ones that you don’t use enough (keeping them front of mind), can negotiate savings on your Comcast bill and offers statement credits for spending like you normally would on a linked card. Yesterday I got $1 back for spending $5 at lunch and another $1 back for grocery shopping. I’ve also activated an offer for a $10 credit for spending $20 at the movies and a $10 credit for spending $50 shopping. I may or may not end up using those, but it’s nice to know they’re there!
The fact you can buy replacement Ninja parts: Of the many things Kyle contributed to the household when he moved in — I’m talking pretty much all of our furniture, plus a TV, two Playstations and a tea kettle — was a Ninja blender. It blows my little Hamilton Beach single-serve blender out of the water. So, clumsy me went and broke the main bowl when I went to get it down on Wednesday and it fell from the top of the fridge. Luckily they sell the individual components, so I don’t have to buy whole other $120 blender. I can get a replacement bowl for $35. Score.
Gear Week: Got all my Under Armour gear for work for the year this week — shoes, a couple of quarter zips and a few shirts. The quarter zips are my favorite, just waiting for the weather to cool down so I can actually wear them! (Plus I made this video for one of my teams, because it's gear week for them, too, so...)
What are your Friday Favorites?
Do you use any online financial planning tools? Which ones do you like?
Do you ever buy wine or beer at places like Aldi? I usually don't, but I couldn't resist!
