TGIF! It has been a week and I’m ready to enjoy the weekend (with nerves out the wazoo anticipating my long run tomorrow!). One reason I really like doing these Friday Favorites posts is because it allows me to really think about the good things that happened the week before, instead of just the things that sucked or stressed me out. There was plenty of that, but there was plenty of good stuff, too, and I think we tend to overlook it a lot of the time.
So, without further ado, here’s what I’m crushing on this week:
Any Outlander fans out there? I’m obsessed, so when the trailer for the new season came out recently, I decided to prepare myself by rewatching Season 2. Got through all 13 episodes in 4 days, nbd. Only one small complaint I have with the Season 3 trailer: neither Claire nor Jamie look to have truly aged 20 years in these promos. But then I found out that they’ve been playing younger this whole time. Caitriona Balfe (Claire) and Sam Heughan (Jamie) are both 37 (what???), so I guess we’re splitting the difference?
Anyway, I’m hyped for Season 3 starting Sept. 10!
Aldi: Oh, Aldi, why had I forsaken you? For the longest time I did the bulk of my grocery shopping at Aldi because a) they have good stuff and b) oh, the deals! But then I discovered Fresh Thyme, which is kind of a cross between Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s, and you can get specialty items there that you can’t get at Aldi all the time. And naturally I started spending more money on groceries. This week, I decided to rely solely on Aldi for my grocery haul, and man, did I forget what I was missing. No, I didn’t get several bottles of kombucha or buy $10 worth of Larabars, to go along with everything else I’d normally buy, but I did manage to buy enough (healthy!) groceries to get me through to next payday for less than $60. Fresh Thyme is good for those one or two items that aren’t in a regular grocery store, but apart from that it’s foolish to do the bulk of my shopping at anywhere other than Aldi.
Who doesn’t love tacos? I hadn’t had tacos in a while, so I whipped up a batch on Wednesday and have been enjoying them ever since. I used to just make the seasoned taco meat (I use lean ground turkey), but did you know you can essentially double your taco output by adding in a can of beans to the mixture? Game changer. I have so many leftovers and they’re great for lunches. Also? If you have gas burners (I will never not cook with gas), heat your corn tortillas over the flame. It gives the tortilla a nice little char and feels authentic(ish).
This water bottle and this fuel belt from Amphipod: I knew it was going to be important to be hydrated through this half marathon training cycle, which is why I love this water bottle. It’s small, and requires a refill or two on long runs, but the hand strap is the real MVP here. You don’t even half to really “hold” it. And then the fuel belt fits both my phone and my Gu’s and doesn’t slip, which is key when running. I definitely have a booty, which can make things like this difficult to stay put, but this stays in place throughout my run, and I love it. I used to just hold my phone in my hand and tie my key to my shoelace, so this is a wonderful solution.
This “stellar” piece of news: Start polishing off that resume!
That's all this week! Have a great weekend!
