The topic of diets is still pretty taboo in our culture, and I mean diet in the "Mediterranean diet" sense of the word; not to be confused with the "Atkins diet" sense of the word. You could have the healthiest diet on the planet and still catch flak for being some kind of hippie or something (I love hippies, so let's talk!).

I never approached food as a social experience until I started dating Kyle. Now, I've always loved food, but it was never the centerpiece of any gathering I'd been a part of before. Not only that, but I would often find myself unable to eat in front of other people — a product of my fraught relationship with dieting when I was younger.

TAKING WHOLE30 ON THE ROAD

I have successfully made it through seven days of Whole30, and I'm excited to report that it has so far been a breeze! Well, I mean, do I still sometimes think about bread and cheese and have I said "I want pizza" out loud to myself in the grocery store? Yes. But I really haven't experienced any negative side effects or moods that I've read about so far.

I have not been taking care of myself lately.

In a lot of ways, that’s not entirely accurate. For several months, I have been relentless in my pursuit of self-care. It was a major theme of my planning for the new year and I have carved out a lot of time so far in 2017 to do the things I enjoy and develop healthy habits. Or, well, I have been mindful of carving out that time. It doesn’t always get done as much as I would like.
